The move follows similar restrictions on TikTok in democratic countries amid fears about the popular video-sharing app's Chinese connections. But the French decision also encompassed other platforms widely used by government officials, lawmakers and President Emmanuel Macron himself.

Moore also predicted the rise of the PC and the smartphone decades before they became reality. He died on Friday surrounded by family at his home in Hawaii.

"We [...] need to raise public awareness of the risks associated with digital platforms and neurotechnology devices by giving the public concrete information about the risks to themselves and national security. Educating users about potential dangers and promoting digital literacy will empower individuals to make informed decisions about their online presence and the devices they use."

And what do they blame? > a bug in an open source library Of course. Happy to build his product on open source code, happy to train his models on open source code, but as soon as shit hits the fan, he will push FLOSS under the bus without as much as a moment of consideration.

New tools built by researchers at AI startup Hugging Face and Leipzig University and detailed in a non-peer-reviewed paper allow people to examine biases in three popular AI image-generating models: DALL-E 2 and the two recent versions of Stable Diffusion. Here is the paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2303.11408

Android Private Browser with Real-Time Push notifications options
Hello good people of beehaw. I'm looking for an android browser that works with push notifications for something like calckey but wont outright be a spyware in itself, is there anything that would satisfy this need for me in case firefox fails so?

Pay - if you can - for that password manager, the pro version of your favorite browser, buy some Steam games on Linux. Do what you can to help support the cause you hold dear. Not only are you thanking a developer for their hard work, you're showing companies that there is, in fact, a market for Linux software.

Adding cloak layers to digital projects
Glaze is a tool to help artists to prevent their artistic styles from being learned and mimicked by new AI-art models such as MidJourney, Stable Diffusion and their variants.

The beautiful, intimate origin story of the tildes community

Doctored videos of US President Joe Biden warning of aliens, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky snorting cocaine, or US musician Eminem attacking Mexico's President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador - the use of deep fakes and AI-generated audio-visuals to spread false information is increasingly getting normal, and "usually closer to elections," one expert says.

The decision is relevant for almost all EU websites. However, when websites include this technology they also forward all user data to the US multinational and onwards to the NSA. While the European Commission is still aiming to publish the third EU-US data transfer deal, the fact that US law still allows bulk surveillance means that this matter will not be solved any time soon, an NGO says.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of the guidance is an author’s “duty to disclose the inclusion of AI-generated content in a work submitted for registration," the US Copyright Office says. Also, authors must be human to register works. However, an author who arranges generative AI into a specific sequence—like designing the layout for a comic book—can potentially copyright that sequence of images, if the arrangement is “sufficiently creative."

> Artificial intelligence in its current form is based on the wholesale appropriation of existing culture, and the notion that it is actually intelligent could be actively dangerous

‘Suspicion Machines’: When Artificial Intelligence Can Ruin Your Life
Governments all over the world are using their citizens' personal data -from someone’s children’s travel history to machine-made guesses about who someone sleeps with- and combine them into 'fraud risk scores'. How these algorithms work is largely hidden from the public, but they are already transforming once well-functioning societies into a surveillance culture defined by distrust.

The laptop's 1.5 GHz quad-core Cortex A53-based CPU offers roughly the performance of a Raspberry Pi 3 or a mid-2010s budget smartphone—just barely enough to get by for basic browsing and document editing, fine for command-line work, and difficult to live with for just about anything else.

We’re a collective of individuals upset with the way social media has been traditionally governed. A severe lack of moderation has led to major platforms like Facebook to turn into political machinery focused on disinformation campaigns as a way to make profit off of users. Websites with ineffective moderation allow hate speech to proliferate and contribute to the erosion of minority rights and safe spaces. Our goal with Beehaw is to demonstrate and promote a healthier environment.

    Some thoughts on our philosophy:

Operating our server costs money. If you donate, you should know that 100% of the costs will go towards server time, licensing costs, and artwork. In the future if we need to hire developers or other labor, it would be sourced through the Open Collective Foundation, and it would be transparent to the community before any changes were made.

As a news aggregator and a social media outlet, with a focus on being a safe and accepting space, we strive to create a positive social impact. We will, also, help to connect underprivileged and minority individuals with education and civic participation by promoting a healthier online experience.
