Entering NATO apparently have the effect of making people forget some military techs. Could be worse, like US forgot rocket tech when og nazis in NASA died and now they have to throw mountains of money to some apartheid crook.
Also look at Poland - in 1989 very good military sector which produced many weapons viable even 30 years later, and now basically everything need to be bought from other countries.
