Your lucky number: 7

I also fell into the pitfall of Halo through high school and college and there’s a whole mythology around it that’s continued well into the 343 era.

I like ℵ^0 because it annoys Maths nerds.

  1. I play a lot of Cribbage. 29 is the maximum amount of points you can get in a single hand. While I’ve gotten it once, there is only a 1 in 216,580 probability of actually getting it. Plus, if you get it in an official Cribbage tournament, the American Cribbage Congress will pay you 100$.

I’ve never even seen it! I got the set up once but didn’t get my cut.

Graham’s number, a Googolplex is tiny in comparison

That’s so cool

  1. It actually is the reason for my online pseudonym PP44 !

The reason is it pleases the way I think about many mathematical manipulation. It is difficult to really explain why. But among the many reason :

  • In my mind, numbers that complement each other to form a rounder one like 2 and 8, 25 and 75, are kind of like puzzle pieces that fit together. And among those, the 4 and 6 pair clicks very nicely. The best pair that add up to 10 to me. This is definitively the main reason, and if I had to chose a second one, it would either be 44 or 6 for the same reason.
  • it is the first non prime integer.
  • It is the first (kinda non trivial) square. And the square of two that “define” parity.

Isn’t 1 the first non-prime integer?

2+2=4

2x2=4

22=4

  1. Lowest useful number that can be divided into halfs and thirds.

Why are thirds important to you?

e to the power of 2 times i times pi is one of the best numbers.

Not only for its great multiplicative properties, but also its applications all across math and physics. It’s an easy number to work with, and always a pleasure to encounter. It gets used quite a lot in programming, too.

Oh, I forgot to mention: there’s also a great Three Dog Night song named for this number :)

I like numbers in general. I don’t really have a favorite.

I’ve always taken a particular liking to the number 5. I think it’s because it feels even, despite not being even, by virtue of being right in the middle between 1 and 10

I don’t have a favorite number, why would I have one? Some numbers that are used for cryptography are pretty cool I guess.
