The website of Robin Rendle, a designer and writer from the UK.

Cute GenZ story. Must have been strange growing up with the mega corp. internet as it was already in the 2010s… and not knowing that the internet was indeed different before. But the internet of yore never truly went away… it just became harder to find especially if you are young and instinctively repelled by “old” not mobile friendly designs.

Can confirm mostly. The closest I had growing up was Blogspot and Tumblr.

I hope more young people begin to realize it. Unfortunately I see a lot unwilling to or that just don’t care. It makes me sad at what the internet could be but I can understand why the youth would see it this way. Ruling class hegemony has done an exceptional job at funneling people towards closed platforms with monetary ideals under the guise of being user-friendly/modern/fun.
