It could be much worse. It seem that at least most of these games will mostly function without the online component.
Yeah their DRM crap can easily cause (even more) problems at this stage.

Red Alert and Battle for Middle-Earth both have amazing community run servers nowdays
Last time I checked, Mercenaries 2 didn’t work properly online anyway. PS3 version checks for the online server on startup, can’t connect then crashes (at least it did last time I tried it).
