other people think, you can directly throw it under your shirt,

I was doing this the other day. I kept on forgetting it was in my shirt and when I stood up it fell out. Tips for this?

Off the top of my head, I can imagine a pantyhose holder scarf thing

I’ve received a lot of physiotherapy, stretching does help muscle problems for sure

Shouldnt it ideally have some kind of thing that lets me keep it against my body when walking? Bc in winter

afaik, it would create hierachies based on inherited wealth, as well as leaving the patriarchy in place, race hierarchies etc. Their definition of anarchism is the abolishment of gov and nothing else.

Fellow CIA shills, you know which part of lemmy i'm talking about ;) I'm glad people here don't mindlessly stan countries

Based. Finally a place on lemmy to address anarchists rather than being lemmygrad 2.0

Fellow lemmings, you doing alright for the heatwaves?
As a poor person, maybe most useful advice for other poor people is water bottles. Tap water is colder than the air so I try to keep a plastic water bottle in my hand or pressed against my skin and it helps a lot. If anyone is in a bind, post your situation and we/I will try to come up with a simple enough solution. My irl qualifications might be useful for the first time online lol: I was homeless for 2 months and have been poor af for my whole life, so i've had to ghetto innovate a lot of stuff.

blog

Any blogs or content creators that you know off that share similar kinds of stories? I figure this would be another way to learn about this kind of thing.

Upright bicycle versus what? Like are the other types the tour de France racing style?

Fuck i’m mad. I called another coworker and asked them to text the boss and then suddenly the boss replies to me

Anyone else “on call” but only cause the boss texts you 1 hour or less before work?
Sometimes doesn't give a schedule and i have to text him asking if i'll be working today. Takes his sweet ass time replying. Especially bad for days off since i only find out i'm not being summoned to work 1 hour before work starts. It's already tough to arrange plans with friends let alone when I only find out 1 hr before work starts. This isn't suppose to be an on call job like this. And some of the other coworkers actually have schedules. Just fire me already bleep. Today might be the day where I show some courage and not set an alarm if he doesn't reply by the time i'm in bed and if i miss my shift, bleep it. Ugh I don't have another job lined up atm so adds to the scariness.

Unfortunately many women will not be physically affectionate with men because many men misread this sign

I think it’s mostly due to societal expectation. Ex even me, for the most part, I have very little understanding of being close emotionally or physically with someone and not dating them. Like I can theorize about it, but it’s just theories in my head, since i have basically no real experience of this. Sounds like the life you’ve lived/other ppl in the same community would be an interesting work of fiction. Aliens in like avengers movies are pretty much just typical society copy and pasted by with a skin change.

I would never be offended if someone came to me and said something along the lines of

I dig it. But in my life, both men and women would be offended if i said this to them haha. But i’ll ponder on this for a while and see if i can come up with a modification i could use.

Sharing thoughts about your feelings - the wants and needs, and the troubles you’re experiencing is generally speaking not a very cishetman thing to do and can help to show the vulnerability and desire to connect with another.

It’s genuinely a risky approach to do this, bc it’s not uncommon to be called a pussy (or similar) for sharing the vulnerabilities. Last happened to me 2 weeks ago. Though it was a (likely) cishetWoman, but she seems pretty conservative, so got black swaned there. But yeah, if i can correctly read a person isn’t gonna be offended by ‘i can feel pain’, then it’s probably helpful.

Also, you blog about this kind of thing anywhere? I wanna read more about the world you’ve live lol

It might help to explicitly seek out queer friend groups as they tend to be much more okay with and display this kind of affectionate behavior more often.

Yeah i have noticed this! One gay male acquintance would say uhh compliments / excessively nice statements to me (read: strange to hetero culture over here) I didn’t really know what was going on and just assumed the guy thought i was good looking or smthg but i didn’t mind since he wasn’t sleezy about it.

You could ask your friends if its okay to cuddle.

Similarly, 2 bi acquintances said they’d cuddle naked and shower and stuff and I had absolutely 0 idea what they were going on about, bc apparently they weren’t interested in the other and that 404 errorred me so probably just nodded my head and maybe threw out an active listening statement. Personally, that’d be way to much for me circa 2022.

Female friends did wayyy more affectionate stuff with each other then us lads. I always felt it was lame af of us lads. Like my exgf would dance with a male friend’s gf, leaving us with, uhh, nothing to do for like a few mins. When the gfs would initiate dancing with each other, i’d sorta look over at the dude and try to feel out if he wanted to dance together or something, but nada.

I regularly ask people if I can lay my head down in their lap, because I enjoy that particular dynamic.

Wow crazy, this would have Never had crossed my mind! What gender and sexuality are you if you don’t mind me asking? I’m cishetman.

I’ve noticed with a few males i suspected were gay that they’d be less friendly with het males then women. I figured they were concerned i’m douchbag or had worse experiences with het men so i didn’t mind much. But doesn’t exactly make it easy for me to talk to them.

Now that i’m a poor adult, i don’t even know how to meet people my age outside of like work. Which is largely due to poverty and my time away from work is spent trying to save money to afford rent. Ex having to walk everywhere takes a while. (Okay, i do know how to meet people… I mett some cool people now and then but very rarely get a chance to follow up on it)

Understanding a problem isn’t always enough to solve it though, as i found out.

Can I ask you to share your story and findings?

Have you considered seeking these kinds of behavior out from people whom you are not dating?

Yeah I’m open to that. But not sure where to begin with that that isn’t what I’m already doing

Interesting story the other day, a male and female friend did something independently that I found cute. I didn’t tell either of them that it’s cute. For the male - didn’t want to offend him by saying X was cute. For the female, didn’t want her to think I’m hitting on her.

A few years ago I offended a male friend by saying something along those lines.

Honestly, feel slightly bad to have to check my speech and I def didn’t check myself with the ex. I could try talking with these friends about this but uhh I don’t know how to bring it up, specifically around the male.

Write down the specific things you miss, and then ask yourself whether you’d miss any person who did those things or had those traits.

I knew I had no standards before but writing them out really emphasizes that feeling. I got: 1. just the company of having someone around even if we’re not talking, 2. ample eye contact, 3. things like holding hands or even just sitting shoulder to shoulder.

I’m het dude and have been having a a good time with dudes, which I guess is because it’s pretty easy to have 1 and 2 met.

Thinking about it, I think I’ve had better friendships with women. With men, I suspect some degree of machoism might make them do stuff like less eye contact? Which might explain my findings.

Are you thinking more about the person, or the idealized form you associate with the context that person had in your life?

Is much more along my lines

my study has been on the dialectics of relationships, not so much on how to think about them after

You study relationships?

thank you! Seeing the general leftist sentiment of “my coworkers are bae” makes the whole situation feel worse since it feels like i’m literally the only one

Thin blue line is pretty weak at some workplaces
Some work places, the coworkers are pretty good about not ratting each other to management. But at others, management doesn't keep an iron grip on you, but coworkers do, due to like petty grievances. By a similar notion, i've often had trouble hanging out with coworkers while i'm at the same workplace as them, i have an easier time after they're ex-coworkers, since i don't have any back of my mind thoughts wondering if i mess up in conversation when we're out drinking, that they'll invent some bs to tell management. Any advice on this? And it sounds like cops (mostly) never rat on each other, no matter how much they should.

idea of the person

Hey you actually noticed this too! In general, a lot of people love their idea of person the rather than the real person. Which i’ve been wondering about a lot lately. Any musing on how to tell if you’re in love with your perception of a person rather than the actual person?

why i dont use linkedin but also why i should to support my international capitalist

I have head cannon that says we have some innate anti-incest genes in us that make people we’re related to less attractive to avoid inbreeding problems.

But yeah you can easily reply and talk about cousins, since we’re not that related to them.

How about if i editted the title to say “If 2 people who are more distantly related than 2nd cousins spend enough quality time together, do romantic feeling develop 95% of time?”

I’m assuming you don’t have a incest gilf complex going on, so you’re not sexually/etc compatible with her

The importance of vid quality controls
I often use YouTube/invidious over odysee or peertube due to my devices lagging either due to the device being low spec or internet connection or something else. A bunch of Odyssey and peertube videos are only available at 720p or 1080p. I'm consistently told I don't need a gaming computer and 100 Mbps to play 1080p videos without lag, but 1080p videos have been a problem across every device I've ever owned in my life, and the best device I've owned was a pixel 6, and on 75 Mbps connection. Inb4 I'm told this is my problem I should just deal. So videos of being automatically scaled down to 360p or 480p would help a lot with adoption.

If 2 people spend enough quality time together, do romantic feeling always develop?
Assuming both or at least one of of them has a correspond sexuality/gender/etc that works with the other

Do you know when you’re gonna be paid?
I do for my jobs that pay me daily. But for the ones that are suppose to pay every 2 weeks or so, i have no idea. My coworkers talk about the pay days that happen once/2 weeks. I assume they're still in the pay check to pay check situation so they particularly pay attention? I guess i'll try to figure out when i'm suppose to get paid so i can see if my boss is shorting me since someone else here said they were being short changed.

Ehh not bad, but iirc correctly the antiwork sub only started getting srs attention when it hit like 1.2 million

Just spit balling here: probably higher indigenous population.

Any other North Americans notice the demographics difference of those who bus?
A huge amount of not-caucasians, the caucasians who do ride are often old/disabled. Lots of students of all variety. I think that the whole car culture is more integral to Caucasian culture, at least over here. I think immigrants r more okay to ride buses. I was talking to a Japanese lady at a bus stop and she said that eventually she might buy a vehicle due to the transit here sucking compared to Japan. I heard European pub buses is pretty good, at least compare to here.

I would recommend a phone that is at least 6gb of ram though, 4 is way too low these days.

You’ll never guess how much ram i have on my laptop lmao!

4gb. and i have 2gb on my phone.

Why do you think i should get 6gb? Makes my apps run slower?

Alcatel a robust mobile with a very good performance and price ratio.

Yeah thats what i noticed too! Like no where sells them online or smthg, i see lots of samsungs and whatnot on amazon/ebay but very few alcatels. Walmart/a few other brick&mortar store’s website sucks tho

Thanks!

There’s this subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/PickAnAndroidForMe/

We need this on lemmy

I wouldn’t get something with <4GB RAM

Why? Apps would run too slow?

I got my current phone 16gb storage, 2gb ram, 1 camera for 100$ new. Android 10 though. Getting pretty slow and glitchy.

So 100$ budget, but accounting for inflation since then I guess like 120$ budget

There’s a crosspost button btw.

I used it for this post :p

How to buy a cheap new phone?

A bunch that r more affordable don't go up to Android 12. I assume Android 12 is important so I don't get hacked when I'm trying to do banking on my phone on unsecured public Wi-Fi (which is where I do all my banking :( )

My workplace is like a ranked league of legends match: some staff toxic af. Any advice? Haven’t been told to kys in person in a long time.

I can eventually switch jobs, but not rn. > > But people regularly play LOL despite it being so toxic and they don't mute them. I just mute ppl in league but there isn't a mute button irl. How do they mentally do it? It's either I figure out how to cope or have to go for counseling.

This is a great point you bring up. My right wing contacts seem much more likely to vote and weigh in to the world financially and sometimes politically (ex bringing up anti abortion shiza in public)

My African-American contacts often don’t vote. They usually more concerned basic survival needs compared to the right wingers (ex job loss = homeless but for my right winger contacts, job loss = have to delay vacation plans)

How does somebody recruit ethnic minorities that are 5th gen plus into a left-wing thing? (Ex African Americans. But not say Chinese immigrants - the 1st gen immigrants I know don’t vote, they usually focus on being, imo, bloody wealthy)

Any organization that is incapable of including you in an online or offline social space in 5 minutes and give you something meaningful to do in 30 minutes is a dead organization.

This is definitely going to be useful filtering criteria in the future! Thanks!

Reasons to get a bike
In addition, cycling provides a variety of health benefits.[12][13] The World Health Organization (WHO) states that cycling can reduce the risk of cancers, heart disease, and diabetes that are prevalent in sedentary lifestyles.[14][10] Cycling on stationary bikes have also been used as part of rehabilitation for lower limb injuries, particularly after hip surgery.[15] Individuals who cycle regularly have also reported mental health improvements, including less perceived stress and better vitality.[16] Cycling also offers a reduced consumption of fossil fuels, less air or noise pollution, reduced greenhouse gas emissions,[9] and greatly reduced traffic congestion These have a lower financial cost for users as well as for society at large (negligible damage to roads, less road area required)

Anyone with knee pain use a bicycle? Any protips?

People have too much faith in complaining up the hierarchy and hoping something changes
Reminiscing about a bad time where I once complained to HR about prev boss and they did jack all. I later figured HR hired him specifically bc they liked that behavior.

Why a lot of people don’t care about privacy
For poor people (ex lumenproletariat, but incl anyone struggling, which incls some middleclass 'big spenders') hard to give a hoot about privacy when like the bottom 2 rungs of maslow's hierarchy of needs are lacking. I personally bumped into digital privacy/the fediverse somewhat randomly when covid lockdowns were happening. Always sorta had an innate concept of privacy compared to some people though.

Friend became my boss recently. Friend also became a jerk simultaneously.
The fact that they're in charge and I need the cash went straight to their head. Sucks man.

Anyone else have actual conversations with homeless/poverty stricken individuals?
A lad told me today that he'll make a facebook account just to connect with me, gave me the address of the place he's couch surfing at and told me to come over anytime. He said "because you treat me like a human." 😢 I've gotten in trouble at a few jobs for talking with poor people rather than just shuffling them through. It helps that I have to walk through the hood frequently.

Would there be any substantial benefit to buying a car for extremely cheap?
The going rate at used car dealerships is 5000 and a friend of a friend has a car in reasonable condition for 1000. I doubt I could find the 1000 offer later on. For reference a like ebike costs like 2000 without shipping and nobody sells them in my region. I initially needed a car to get to a job that I don't have anymore. But maybe it'll be useful if I pick up a job outside the city again? Also, maybe I could flip the car? since I need the money since i'm having job trouble atm. CMV: The first thing leftists should strive to do is get a good enough income (can include via setting up mutual aid)
change my view cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/238912 > If you've ever looked at how rightwing movements operate, it appears they throw a lot of money around. And because of the world we live in, it gets results, ex the canadian trucker protest having basically all the same amenities as a festival, nearly a theme park. Advertising budget. Funding institutions/youtube channels to spread bs. > > I think the first thing a leftist should do is, in order: > > 1) get a good enough income for themself. This can include mutual aid or even things like food banks, depending on your philosophy. > > 1b) study some finance, ex [the finance diet](https://yewtu.be/channel/UCSPYNpQ2fHv9HJ-q6MIMaPw) and use tricks from financial sources to boost income. This includes stock market/saving for retirement. I can elaborate later if u want on why savings are important. Including trying to use tax loop holes for our advantage. The rightwingers get an edge from this, we need to even the playing field > > 2) take care of other important things like enough exercise, good diet, dating > > 3) actual left things. But starting with making sure other lefties are well off financially. I'm not sure how to do this and not create capitalists. But technically if you have 0.0001% of stocks, you (the worker) owns 0.0001% of the means of production of that company. A good approach might be starting a worker co-op, where you give people a good wage and recruit youngins right out of high school. That way they learn what a just economic system is and when they branch of to other companies, they will hopefully expect just treatment and be more ready to push for a union in their new workplace.

Any advice on doing casual labor for people and getting ripped off?
I do a bunch a odd jobs for people that I get via asking around. The jobs don't get protection from government or business, you might get my drift if you've ever been poor. It happens a lot, like for 25% of jobs that I do for people that I get ripped off. I'll be snow plowing someone's lot every time it snows for all of winter, and they pay me immediately after each plowing. Once the weather starts improving, I do a job for them and then they ghost me without paying me. It happens occasionally where they don't have the cash on hand (these jobs only are cash, no etransfer possible, cryptocurrency is a possibility if they had it) and they say they'll pay me next time and they usually do, so when they say they'll pay me next time and just ghost me, i have no advance warning. Is there like any anarchist contract/tips I could consider using? For some people, I offer them a receipt/ask them for a receipt, but they don't want any paper trial leading to them, so they refuse.

Getting labor notes used as a real currency is only about as difficult as getting cryptocurrency accepted as real currency. But we have crypto ATMs but not labor note ATMs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_voucher = labor notes The cryptobros are 'highly motivated' so that might have been why I haven't heard any talk about labor vouchers in like 10 years. But some jobs pay in crypto now a days, but none (that i know of) pay in labor vouchers! Labor notes could likely be an improvement to labor conditions if we got as much adoption as even crypto currently.
